15 october2008, wednesday, Tozeur-Ksar Ghilane

At 08.00 am we started driving out of Tozeur leaving the most beautifull hotel so far. Driving through the oase of Tozeur means palm trees full of dates everywhere. We eat them fresh, in jam and in Tunisia people also make a digestive from it. We drove through the beautiful Sahara over the hughe salt lake called Chott el Jerid to the village of Kebili and later on Douz. After a few hours of driving we found a café in the middle of only sand and sand and....... The owner of this café, the Tarzan cafë, served us a nice cup of mint tea and told me he was very happy to live the life he lived; It is nice and quiet here at I am free, when I don't want to work I just lock my door. Continuing our way to Ksar Ghilane we saw the first wild camels along the Sahara track and later on we were stopped by a man in an uniform who wanted to check our passports, two others came and started talking with us and adviced us to visit their cafe, as we did not. We drove on to arrive early in our lovely overnight stay and had lunch first because we were there aerly in the afternoon. It looked fantastic with all the Berber tents. Some of us walked to the Roman fortress, others went for a swim in the natural spring or the pool of our tent hotel. We worked on our satellite system to be able to send and receive email from remote places. We also contacted our agent in Libya about where we would meet him at the border. Later we had a drink next to the pool and later on dinner. After that we went to our simple tents, equiped with airco, shower and toilet.
